LumaCaption is built to be private by design: your video file is never uploaded, and editing and rendering happen entirely on your device. To produce captions we extract the audio and send only that to our third-party transcription providers — never the video. The audio is used to return the words and is not stored by us.
Account data — when you sign in with Google we store your email, name and a user id (via Supabase, our auth and database provider). Usage data — transcription minutes used, plan, referral activity, and coupon redemptions, so quotas and billing work. Payment data — payments are processed by Razorpay; we store payment ids, amounts and status. We never see your card or UPI details.
Your video file. It never leaves your device: editing and rendering run entirely in your browser, and the captioned file is written straight back to your disk. The one thing that does leave is the extracted audio, sent to a transcription provider to work out the words.
The app uses browser storage (cache, local storage, OPFS) for model files, in-progress projects and preferences. Clearing site data removes them.
Supabase (authentication, database), Razorpay (payments), Google (sign-in), PostHog and Microsoft Clarity (product analytics and session recording, to understand how the app is used and improve it), Meta (an advertising pixel that reports page views and whether you signed up, so we can measure our ads — it never receives your email, name or video), and content delivery networks that serve the app’s code and fonts. Each receives only what is technically necessary for its role. The videos you edit are never uploaded for analytics, and the video file itself is never uploaded at all — only its extracted audio goes to the transcription provider.
You can request a copy or deletion of your account data at any time — email support@lumacaption.com from your account address and we will action it within 30 days. Deleting your account removes your profile, entitlements, usage ledger and referral records; payment records are retained where tax law requires.
